Here are some gems we have shared together over the years—that according to Grandmother Twylah, December is the month of Gratitude and that Gratitude opens the doorway to our Wisdom. Add to the mix that both the Light of the season, and the Dark of the season, take us deep within.
The marriage of Light and Dark has given birth to this perhaps unusual seasonal message.
I continue to watch, and be moved by, the ripples of change from some of our shared and/or global big game changing events. Things that used to fit us well, aren’t so much anymore. New interests are arising and finding places in our lives.
The 5th World of Unity & Illumination is fast taking root, asking us to go on a magical Mystery tour. Letting go, healing, and moving into the Unknown, we are.
And still, we humans are at odds with each other, and at war, and mired in chaos and conflict.
I want to add here some recent thoughts about Peace. I may not be able to communicate these thoughts clearly at this point in time but here we go. On one hand, we have wars and chaos and violence and atrocities. On the other hand, we have prayers for peace. For how many eons of time, have we humans been praying for peace? How are we doing with that?
For me, perhaps there is a disconnect between what we’ve got– wars, chaos, violence and atrocities and all of our prayers. So, for me, and I share this in case it resonates with you, I am no longer going to just pray for peace. I am going to connect it to, to make sure I’m telling the truth about, who we humans are. We are violent. We haven’t a clue how to handle our emotions. We blame, we lash out. We hurt, we kill, we destroy. With my feet planted in the truth of this part of us, now I will lift prayers toward peace.
During a conversation with a native Elder years ago, a group of women asked her, if she was the leader of a country, would she have an Army? She said, ‘Yes. I would, in honor of the other son.’ This relates to the Creation story of the twin sons that were born of the woman who fell from the Star World and was helped to land on the earth on the turtle’s back, thus creating Turtle Island. (Please forgive the very truncated version of this beautiful and meaningful story.)
One son went forth and created all the things of beauty and plants and fruits that nourish us. The other went forth and created things that bite and sting and hurt and have poison.
Now, I will offer prayers with both sons in mind. I will stand upon the truth of the son that hurts with the hope from the beauty creating son, while lifting prayers for All. Both sons live in all of us. Thoughts of one without the ever, in either direction, lack balance. Prayers that deny one, in my opinion, don’t help–except to make us feel temporarily better.
Don’t just celebrate the Light this season. This is the Season of Light and Dark. When do you see the beauty of the twinkling lights the best? In the evening, against a darkened sky. While we often associate darkness with the ‘bad stuff inside of humans,’ it’s also nighttime, the womb, and rest.
This is my message of Hope Upside Down. Start with the whole of what it is to be human and the state of our collective humanity. Don’t shy away from the tough stuff. Sink our feet into it while lifting our gaze to the hope in our potential.
Blessings to All, as our Pathways forward are shaped by both Light and Dark.
