Dare 2B Fair

Have you ever had one of those moments, perhaps in the presence of a tragic event or an occasion that just seemed so unfair, which made you wonder how you can make a difference?

The birth of Dare 2B Fair came from the merging of two events.

• The first was the tragic shooting at a community meeting organized by then Senator Gabby Giffords for her constituents.
• The second event, about a week later, was a rare snow storm in Texas. There is nothing like the expanded sense of quiet when everything is covered in snow.

With these two converging events, in the glistening quiet, I pondered what I might be able to do to ‘make life better for self and other’, hoping to contribute to a better world, a saner world.

I am a theatre artist. This is my original artform. A language-based art, words are its medium. Here, I thought, is where I can put my focus.

In less than 2 days, in the quiet magic from a world cloaked in glistening white, Dare 2B Fair: Embracing the Power in Words was born.

I shared it with friends, posted it on my former website, had a pilot program taught in a local school, and then…. got busy with other work and responsibilities.

Last year, I knew it was time for this primer on, maybe just maybe, creating a better world through the power of our everyday words.
